Weather in Cyprus:  Cyprus weather benefits from a Mediterranean climate with long hot summers days and short mild winter nights.

Cyprus Weather in Summer
Cyprus weather in June through to September summertime is, high temperatures are coupled with almost no rain. Temperatures peak in July and August when daytime high temperatures in the mid 30°c - 40°c are not uncommon. The average temperature is around 30°c for the entire summer season. Fairly low humidity and sea breezes help to keep things more comfortable but it is always very hot and taking a siesta in the peak of the day is advisable. The sunshine hours are 12 hours per day in June and July and is only slightly shier in the following months. From June till September it is very rare to experience a rainy day, although the odd shower may appear. The sea temperature peaks in July, August and September at 24°c.

Cyprus Weather in Autumn
Cyprus weather in October and November the weather remains excellent with the tourist crowds thin out. The temperature reduces to an average high of 26°c in October to 22°c in November and to average lows of 16°c and 12°c respectively. Autumn temperatures are more comfortable than the summers long hot humid days and nights. Autumn days are shorter with day temperatures more acceptable followed by cooler nights would seem to be preferable for the tourist, but summer remains the most popular season. October sees a little rain and the end of November heralds the start of the wet season – though you will still only get about seven days per month of rainfall on average. Showers are usually short but heavy and at night. Occasionally certain areas in Cyprus can get strong thunderstorms with heavy localised rainfall. Thunderstorms are at their most common in Autumn and Winter, but sunshine levels still remain high and the sea stays more than warm enough for swimming.

Cyprus Weather in Winter
Cyprus weather in December through to February experiences an exceptionally mild winter. In fact on many days, one might sit comfortably in a t-shirt and shorts in the midday sun as temperatures can still reach upwards of 20ºc. The average high temperature decreases to 19°c in December and 17°c in January and February. The average low does fall to 10°c in the evenings and on the very rare occasion can touch 0°c in the higher sea level and mountain regions. The warm days are sometimes interrupted with cool blustery winds and the nights are always colder at this time of the year. January is the wettest and coldest month, with average rainfall seeing nine days. The yearly rainfall is just above 400mm on average and much of this falls in the short, heavy winter downpours.  The sun stays out for around five hours per day and the sea is debatably just warm enough for swimming. Those that brave swimming on British seaside holidays will find the 17°c water positively balmy. If you are holidaying in Paphos in the Winter months and find yourself wanting some proper Winter weather, you can find it in the nearby Troodos Mountains. Generally, there is snow in the higher mountains, that reach up to 2000m, between January to March, so you can ski in the early mornings then sunbathe in the afternoon.

Cyprus Weather in Spring
Cyprus weather between March to May beats any English summers hands down as It is sunnier, hotter and drier. It is also outside of the peak tourist summer season. The average high temperature rises to 18°c in March, 21°c in April and 24°c in May. The average low temperature stays around 10°c in March evenings and April but gets up to 14°c in the later part of April. From early March beach days resume, though the sea is still a bit nippy and cool winds can inspire the odd shiver. The clouds stampede away taking the rain with them and leaving instead longer hours of sunshine. March sees seven hours of sun per day, April nine and May ten. May sees very little rainfall and it steadily decreases from the beginning of the season. From the end of March rain becomes a forgotten inconvenience with only the odd, gentle reminder. This is the season Europeans should choose to visit the sunny island of Cyprus for their vacations.
